Keeping a balanced weight is essential for your well-being, but it’s not always an easy task to do. If you’ve noticed that you don’t move as fast as you used to, and if your partner is complaining about your snoring at night, it is likely that you’ve gained a few pounds. Aside from having difficulty sleeping and a lack of ability to move as fast as before, there are also a few other warning signs that you should definitely start hitting the treadmill as soon as possible.

You snoreYou snore

Once the fat starts accumulating around your throat, it will prevent you from breathing easily. Your airways will become obstructed to a certain point which will in return cause sleeping apnoea, the condition that will cause loud and annoying snoring. Not only will you have a terrible quality of sleep, but you’ll disturb your partner’s sleep as well. That’s why if you start getting complaints about your snoring, you should hit the treadmill. Furthermore, if you notice that you’re constantly tired no matter how early you go to bed, it’s because you cannot get a good night’s sleep, due to your obstructed airways.

Your clothes don’t fit

If you can’t fit your body into your old clothes with ease as you used to, or you can’t zip up your favourite jeans at all, it’s definitely time for switching up your diet and introducing more activity into your everyday routine. Being overweight isn’t good for your well-being or your appearance, so instead of wasting money on a new wardrobe, start breaking a sweat and switch up your eating habits. Forget about takeout, late night cravings and sugary drinks, and start having nutritious breakfasts, high-protein lunches and drink water instead of sugary beverages. Not only will you start losing weight, but you’ll feel better in your own skin as well.

Exercises are a nightmare for youExercises are a nightmare for you

We all slack off with our exercises sometimes, but if you’ve been doing so for the past decade or longer, it’s highly likely you won’t be able to do as many push-ups all at once as you used to before. You may have decided to go back to fitness, but if just doing one burpee makes you want to throw up, it’s clear that you’re not only out of shape but with a few extra pounds around your waist as well. To make sure you’ll do the exercises every day, even if it is for 15 minutes, think about investing in one of the treadmills for home use and design a small at-home gym to help you through the most difficult period. Beginnings are always the hardest, so if you start small by running on a treadmill for 15, 20 and later more than 30 minutes a day, you’ll have no trouble pumping iron after only a month of regular workouts.

Your body aches

Back, knees and joints tend to ache more when they need to carry extra weight. So, if you’ve noticed that every now and then you need to put some pain reliever to your knees and back, you might want to check what the scale says. Excess weight puts too much pressure on joints and is highly likely to wear down the tissue around them. This will further make your joints ache and limit your movement due to too much discomfort that you’ll start to experience. You should start by eating healthy, and mix in some moderate exercises so that you don’t injure your joints or knees even more. After you see the first results of weight loss from a regulated diet, you should start with jogging, swimming, and cycling to accustom your body to increased physical activity.

You’re out of breath quicklyYou’re out of breath quickly

Does walking up the stairs leave you breathless before you’ve even reached the first floor? If so, you’re seriously out of shape and more importantly, you’ve gained weight. Just like with sleep apnoea, your respiratory capacity for muscle function decreases with weight gain, leaving you breathless even after a simple activity such as climbing up the stairs. The less active you are, the more breathless you’ll become, which is a sign that your heart and lungs aren’t getting enough workout for optimal functioning.  Therefore, think about introducing more physical activity into your life if you want to stay healthy for a long time.

Everyone needs a little bit of fat around our organs to protect them from external influences, but that does not mean that you should allow yourself to gain too much weight and jeopardize your health in return. If you notice any of the previously mentioned signs of weight gain, make sure you start working out immediately and allow your body to work properly and offer you a long life.
