This iPhone App Tracks How Long You Spend on Social Media

You’re standing in line at the grocery store, so it seems like a decent time to scroll through Facebook. But then you do it again while you’re stuck in traffic driving those groceries home, and then again waiting on dinner to arrive. Before you know it, you can spend cumulative hours on social media over the course of the day, hours you’re never going to get back that could arguably have spent, at least a few of them, doing something a little better.

Over the past few months, a few of my friends have opted to delete Facebook and Twitter off their phones in an attempt to curb their social media use. It’s a strategy that has helped them cut down on how much they use both, but it’s also made them miss out on invites to events and other things because they’re not looking at it all.

It would be better to find a medium of some sort. Enter Pyxsee. The app tracks your social media use and allows you to set limits on how long you spend places like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram each day.

Instead of using each individual app, you’ll access them all through the Pyxsee app. You can use the app to post to all your social media accounts at once (if that’s your thing), and if you’re a parent you can use the app to set up usage limits for your kids as well for a monthly fee.

You can toggle between allowing yourself unlimited access and limiting your time as often as you’d like, so it’s certainly not a perfect plan for cutting down your social media use. However, if you just want to be more aware of it then it could give you some insights into how you’re currently using social media so you can actively try to ramp things down.
